Phew, what a week! Although I’d taught a couple of afternoons per week for a few weeks before the Easter holidays, I feel as though I started back at work ‘properly’ this week, as I taught a full day on Wednesday. An actual whole day! My first since going on maternity leave almost a full year ago.
I was really nervous, actually, as it was a class I haven’t worked with before (I’m a supply teacher, so I get around a bit, as it were!) but I needn’t have worried, as the children were just lovely. In fact, I taught two different classes as I was covering the teachers’ release time, and I really enjoyed the variety.
The only downside was the impact on poor Little M. In addition to Wednesday, I also worked Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. This is more than I was intending to do, but I agreed to do some SATs booster revision sessions as well as the Wednesday PPA cover, so the two have kind of merged for a couple of weeks. Once SATs are over (and they’re rapidly approaching, in just two weeks’ time!), I’ll just be working the Wednesday, which is pretty much what I’d planned to go back to when I started my maternity leave. Unfortunately, being a supply teacher means uncertainty and the Wednesday plan is a temporary one, but we’ll roll with it!
Anyway, I think Tuesday was a bit of a shock for Little M. She went from having mummy and daddy at home all day, every day, for two weeks, to both of them being back at school. She clung to me when I got home from work on Tuesday and didn’t let go until bed time! The guilt was strong that evening, I can tell you! It added to my worry about Wednesday but she actually seemed more relaxed when I got home, which was a relief.
Thursday was lovely as we had the whole day to ourselves, and started a new term of Tiny Talk classes, too. Little M was so sweet and obviously excited to be there, as she waved at the building as soon as we got out of the car. I like to think that she knew why we were there. Too cute!
On to this week’s photo. It’s a bit too similar to last week’s photo for my liking if I’m honest, but I felt I had to include it as Little M turned eleven months old yesterday. One of the reasons for writing this blog is to mark the milestones for us, I’m just happy to welcome anyone else along for the ride (that’s you, dear reader; ooh look at me going all Rudyard Kipling!).
Anyway, I’m still totally in love with this Next outfit that we picked up at the Lakeside store opening during the holidays. I do love Little M in a skirt, and I love the extra dungaree/braces type detailing. I think I’ll be dressing her in this outfit at every opportunity!
