Last year we had a family photoshoot with Beth Moseley Photography. I loved the photographs so much, that I asked Beth if she’d take some more for us this year. Full disclosure: We paid the standard fee for our mini family shoot with Beth, but she spent longer with us than usual and agreed a larger package of photographs, in exchange for coverage on the blog and social media. I don’t know about you, but I take so many photographs of my children. Thousands of them. But I have barely any photographs with me in them. Those I do have are selfies, which are hardly worthy of framing! So last year when I heard that Beth was looking for local bloggers to try out her new mini family photo shoot service, I jumped at the chance. Well, I loved the photographs so much, one of them has been my phone screensaver ever since.
I was showing off said screensaver to a friend a couple of months ago, and realised how much the girls had changed in the past year, so I decided to ask Beth to photograph us all again. I was so impressed with how she convinced a very reluctant two-year-old M to look into her camera last time, that I knew she’d be able to handle an excited 19 month old B!
We all met up at the Plantation Gardens in Norwich on a slightly damp but sunny day. We were very lucky as the weather created some beautiful light, which Beth used perfectly to capture some stunning photographs.
My favourite thing about Beth’s family shoots is that they are on location outdoors, and she tries to capture as many candid shots as possible, despite the limited time. I much prefer this style of family photograph to studio-based shoots; they’re not really my thing.
Of course I was right about Beth effortlessly being able to get the girls to comply with being photographed. M was so excited to see Beth again and was immediately happy to shout ridiculous phrases at the camera. Beth managed to capture a combination of candid shots of us all looking at each other, but also so great images with us looking to camera. It was so difficult to narrow down the online gallery to the photographs that we wanted to keep.
The mini family photo shoot that Beth offers includes 30 minutes of her time and 5 images as digital downloads, and is priced at £100. After the photoshoot, Beth edited the photographs and just over a week later I received a log in for the online gallery. Beth’s gallery website is really slick and even shows you what your photographs will look like in the different formats on offer (for example, Beth offers gallery, canvas and deckled prints as well as more standard semi-gloss and matte prints, and digital downloads). Once I’d placed my order, my chosen photographs were emailed to me within five minutes, for me to download to my computer (or Google Photos, or Dropbox).
I’m so pleased with the photographs that I’ve chosen. Beth captured a lovely mix of pictures with all of us together, some of just me with the girls or just Matthew with the girls, individual photographs of each of the girls and some really lovely shots of them together, too. It really is very special having such beautiful photographs of us as a family. I think we’ll definitely continue to employ Beth’s services across future years, as the girls grow and change.
